Pin 11 on Rastan is not connected to anything useful on the cp side. It is weird because the exact setup was fine for awhile and the issue came on gradually, and on two boards!? So I'm embarrassed it's a dumb thing like that, but mostly happy it's a simple fix. When I pressed that button the sound started coming through loud and clear! I have a Street Fighter style control panel and player 1 button 6 connects to pin 11 on the Jamma harness. Rastan Saga, known as Rastan in North America, is a side-scrolling hack-and-slash action game originally released by Taito for arcades in 1987.The game was a critical and commercial success, and was ported to various home platforms. But it was when I started randomly playing with buttons that I figured it out. I was eventually going through each different sound and it was interesting that certain ones sounded just fine. I've been running in test mode today mostly playing the level 1 song. Then I tried my other Rastan board that still has original op amps. parism's suggestion prompted me to take the amp out and try going direct to speaker. I ran the game for a couple hours like shess suggested, it got plenty warm and no change. It's kind of lame in the end, but here it goes. Thanks you guys for giving me some new ideas to try. And if there is anything else I should be looking for. But before I go looking for parts and replacing just to rule it out, I wanted to ask for any suggestions. So, even though it didn't fix the issue in robotype's case, I'm wondering if I should try recapping next? I'm cool with that. Then he ultimately fixed by replacing TL074CNs. It sounds like he experienced the same behavior with the resistors that I did. started by replacing caps but said it made no difference. So, I pulled one end out on each and tested it, but they all measured good. Later I noticed that if I brigded the leads (with my finger) somewhere between R10-R12 and R13-R15 it would get better. But the new amps made no difference, sound issues still there. I put them in sockets so I could easily go back to the original parts if I want. I decided to try replacing them on one of the boards anyway. I bought some and did the piggyback test but got neglible improvement. This seems like a broken trace issue which it might be, but I haven't found it yet.Ī common fix for sound problems on Rastan seems to be replacing the two TL074CN op amp ICs. Then it started coming back every power up. When it first started happening I could just press down a little in the amp area of the board and it would fix it for awhile. Distorted sounds/music and overall volume is lowered. Then it became permanent, on both boards. I have two Rastan boards that have developed the same sound problem. Then it started coming back every power up and randomly in the middle of play.
